PALM: Patient-centered treatment ranking via large-scale multivariate network meta-analysis. I was the recipient of the Anne Anderson Award in 2019, being recognized for my cumulative accomplishment, originality and independence of thought, leadership, and inspiration for women within Cochrane. I hold several leadership roles within Cochrane, including serving as the Associate Director for Cochrane United States from 2012 to 2018, a Coordinating Editor for Cochrane Eyes and Vision, a co-convener for the Cochrane Comparing Multiple Interventions Methods Group (aka network meta-analysis methods group), and a member of the Cochrane Methods Executive Committee. ![]() Evidence of my expertise includes serving as a Co-Editor-in-Chief for the journal Trials, the Reviews Editor for JAMA Ophthalmology, an Associate Scientific Editor for the 2nd edition of the Cochrane Handbook for Systematic Reviews of Interventions, and an author for the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine report Crossing the Global Quality Chasm: Improving Health Care Worldwide. I have an international reputation in leading methodological research in systematic review, network meta-analysis, clinical trials, comparative effectiveness research, and patient-centered outcomes research. Food and Drug Administration, and other national and international public funders. My research has been funded by the National Institutes of Health, the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute, the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, the U.S. We work on the chemistry/biology/engineering interface to answer fundamental scientific questions and create innovative technologies and therapeutics that can directly benefit human health. The primary goal of my research is to develop, evaluate, and disseminate efficient methods for comparing healthcare interventions and to provide trust-worthy evidence for decision-making. These same biomedical insights can also be used more broadly in the fields of regenerative medicine and nanomedicine. To accomplish this, our lab is developing a framework where biomaterials and nanoparticles can be rationally designed and computationally modeled. New insights into understanding and controlling the mechanisms of delivery are required to further advance the field. Methods for drug and gene delivery that are both safe and effective have remained elusive. The potential of gene therapy and genetic medicine to benefit human health is tremendous as almost all human diseases have a genetic component, from cancer to cardiovascular disease. Our main research interests are in cellular engineering and nanobiotechnology, with special interests in biomaterials, controlled drug delivery, and gene therapy. ![]()
